Actor Sir Jonathan Pryce plays a character living with dementia in the new TV series, 'The Thursday Murder Club'. He speaks about his experience playing someone with a diagnosis.
Playing characters with dementia
As Richard Osman's 'The Thursday Murder Club' prepares to release on Netflix on Thursday 28 August, Sir Jonathan Pryce CBE who plays the husband, Stephen, of Helen Mirren’s character, Elizabeth, reflects on playing a character living with dementia.
Sir Jonathan Pryce CBE, actor and Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador, said: “My role as Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen, in 'The Thursday Murder Club' is the third time I’ve played a character living with dementia.
While I tend not to base my portrayal on anyone in particular, I have lived through a loved one losing their memory. My beloved Aunt Mair had dementia at the end of her life.
An Ambassador for life-changing dementia support
“One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime. As an Ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society, I’ve seen for myself how vital their work is – they provide life-changing support, campaign for dementia to be a priority and fund groundbreaking research. They are a real lifeline for thousands of people, offering help and hope."
